Liverpool Advance, August 11, 1909 : Obituary : Thomas Cooney, a brief mention of whose sudden death was reported in Tuesday's American, was a highly respected citizen. He resided at 14 Water Street, in the Parish, and left his home at 9:30 for a visit to his niece, Mrs. Isaiah Banks, in the Franham District. When he reached Carney's Corner, he walked to Bridges Corner, where he took a seat on a settee near US Postal Station No. 6, conducted by Comrade W. S. Roundy. Some parties noticed him falling, and hastening to his assistance, found him unconscious. A physician was quickly summoned, and he pronounced the man dead. Medical Examiner Dow, who was notified, ordered the remains removed to Colby's undertaking establishment, Lawrence, where he viewed the body and stated the death resulted from heart disease. The deceased who had not been in rugged health for some time, was a native of Nova Scotia, and 75 years old. Mr. Cooney was a quiet unassuming man, of good principals and held in high regard by all who knew him. He was industrious, upright, honest and honorable in all dealings. The deceased was a member of the Baptist Church, East Port Medway, Queens County, Nova Scotia. The surviving members of the family are a widow; four sons, Lorenzo A. Cooney, North Bennington, Vermont; Clarence S. Cooney, East Barre, Vermont; Private Freeman B. Cooney, Co G, 28th Infantry, USA, Fort Snelling, Minnesota; and Gilbert C. Cooney; four daughters, Mrs. Fred H. Sanford, South Braintree; Mrs. Owen Hale, and Mrs. Harry Holmes, Plymouth; and Miss Bessie M.
