Hannah was an old lady, and moved to Milton from St. Margaret's Bay to live with her son, [after 1880] when she discovered her youngest sister, Maria, who was married to Eben Coombs, and living in Milton. Hannah's children were very young when her husband died, he had no estate after debts were paid and life was difficult for her; that was in the mid 1850's. !T.B. Smith papers say that in 1953 Seward Coombs says: Hannah Mullins married James Walker. Her parents died young, the family was separated and it was a long time they did not know what became of Hannah. Finally heard that she had married a Walker and was living around Margaret's Bay, N.S. Her husband was James Walker and they moved to Milton shortly after marriage. Had children: James Walker who married a Hupman of Summerville, and Walter Walker who married a daughter of Appopolis Rafuse of Summerville. [H>H> Walker Note: this is garbled or misquoted. Hannah moved to Milton after 1874, when she received a gift of a Bible, inscribed "to Hannah Walker: a small token of esteem from a few of her friends at St. Margaret's Bay, December 3, 1874." Her husband had died in 1855, leaving her with two young sons, who as soon as reaching that age for working did just that. "The Mullins children became wards of the county after the death of their mother about a month after their father drowned. The rules were very loose in those days before social services and Children's Aid as we are fortunate to have to-day. The older children probably were taken into families as servants to help, the younger ones had to depend on caring souls to help them out. At this time we do not know what fate these children met. Hannah Mullins turned up years later in Halifax County as the wife of James Walker, a deputy land surveyor of the Margaret's Bay area. She found her sister Maria Coombs who had married Eben Coombs [Sr.] when she moved to Milton in 1880." " The Mullins family appear to have lived near Liverpool, at an area called Birch Point. Other records show a rock known as Mullins Rock at the mouth of a small brook that runs into the river about where in 1996 Maxwell McLeod lives. At that time Simeon Perkins owned a farm there which he often rented out, and some think that this was rented to John Minard who was drowned in the same accident with William Mullins."[Information from Harley Walker, Descendant, 1996.] Parents: John MULLINS and Hannah NICKERSON.
