Liverpool Advance, September 3, 1908: "Obit: On Wednesday morning, August 19th,, there passed away another of the pioneers of Elgin County, in the person of Nathaniel Cohoon, of the second Concession of Malahide. He reached the ripe old age of 90 years, enjoying until the last few years the best of health. For the past five months, though not suffering any particular pain, his life had been gradually wearing out.
" He and his wife and daughter Rebecca, together with a party of friends, came to this country from Port Medway, Nova Scotia, in the year 1846. In 1847 Mr. Cohoon settled on the farm on which he has resided ever since, the Concession Road being only partially cleared at that time.
"He is the last of his family, his brother, Stephen, of Malahide, dying several years ago. Of the ten who came in the party of 1856 [sic, should be 1846] only two are living...Miss Rebecca Cohoon [the loving caretaker of an invalid mother who passed away eight years ago, and afterwards of an aged father.] and Mr. Solomon Parks of Aylmer.
" Besides his daughter two sons are left to revere the memory of a kind father... Mr. E. B. Cohoon, of the second concession, Malahide, and Mr. Jabez Cohoon of the third Concession.
Of a reserved and kindly disposition, Mr. Cohoon was lived and respected by all. A sincere Christian, he has entered into his longed-for rest."
